18s Amaze in Boston! 18-Diamond Wins Qualifier and USA Bid

By ECP Results Team, 03/10/17, 7:15AM EST

ECP's stellar 18s teams continued their terrific senior season with standout performances at the Boston Volleyball Festival, a national qualifier. All six of our 18s teams stayed in gold bracket play on the first day of competition -- an amazing feat for one club. Here's a look at our showing in Boston.

18-Diamond Takes the Championship!

EC Power 18-Diamond powered through the USA division competition at the Boston Volleyball Festival to win the championship and secure a bid to the Girls Junior National Championships in Dallas.

In the quarter-finals, the team faced a scrappy Paradigm team from the Western Empire region in New York, but defeated them in two sets (25-18, 25-22). In the semis, Diamond faced Cali 18s, a Long Island team that took them to 26-24 in the early rounds. The girls crushed and won in two sets (25-20, 25-10), securing one of three bids to the USA division of USAV Nationals awarded to the top three finishers.

Heading into the final match, Diamond was clearly the underdog, facing Club H Adidas of Anaheim, California, which had not dropped a set either. Undaunted, Diamond won the first set 25-23. Club H stormed back with a 12-25 win in the second. In the tiebreak, the Diamond girls dug deep and came home with a 15-12 win, stunning their opponent and securing their first-ever championship at a national qualifier. The win marked the second time this year our 18s have won a national qualifier. (18-Royal won the Jacksonville, Fla. qualifier Open division.)

Great job to Coach Eric Schaefer, Coach Val Sherwin and all the amazing players of 18-Diamond, all of whom are headed to college teams in the fall.

18s Amaze in Boston

The ladies of 18-Royal, fresh off their Open bid win at the Florida Girls National Qualifier, placed 7th among some of the best teams in the country. Notably, Royal handed eventual tournament winner Nebraska Elite an early round defeat. The highlight of the tournament was an epic three set match win against an exceptional Orlando  team (28-30,25-20,16-14).

18-Sapphire, our Lehigh Valley 18s, placed 9th overall in the USA division, battling Cali 18 Black of Long Island to a tiebreak loss in the quarterfinal rounds (25-23,18-25,15-7). 18-Pearl placed 15th overall out of 44 teams.

18-Topaz (KOP) powered to an awesome 5th place finish in the American division. 18-Regal (SV) placed 10th.

Congratulations to all of our 18s teams for an outstanding performance at a national qualifier.
