Few coaches bring the level of experience and success to the court that Dennis Hohenshelt has accumulated throughout his career as a player and coach. A native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Dennis played collegiately at Juniata College, where he helped lead the Eagles to consecutive EIVA Championships in 1992 and 1993. He earned Most Valuable Player honors during his senior season and graduated with a degree in Secondary Education and Social Studies.

Following his playing career, Dennis quickly transitioned into coaching and has spent more than 30 years developing athletes at the high school, club, collegiate, and national levels. His coaching résumé includes 21 seasons at Penn State University, where he worked with both the men's and women's volleyball programs. During his time with the Nittany Lions, he helped the women's program capture four consecutive NCAA National Championships, six Big Ten Championships, and develop multiple All-Americans, including two AVCA National Players of the Year. He also spent five seasons as the head coach at the University of Virginia, where he led the Cavaliers to multiple winning seasons and coached numerous All-ACC performers.

Dennis currently serves as the Director of East Coast Power Volleyball and continues to lead one of the club's premier teams. During the 2025-26 season, his 17 Black squad captured the MLK Kickoff Challenge 17 Open Championship, reached the semifinals of the JVA Charm City Challenge while competing in the 18 Open division, and recorded top finishes at several of the nation's most competitive qualifiers, including Southeast, Boston, Big South, and Show Me.

Known for his commitment to player development and competitive excellence, Dennis has helped guide countless athletes to collegiate opportunities while building championship-caliber programs throughout his career. His passion for teaching, leadership, and the game of volleyball continues to make a lasting impact on athletes at every level.

Volleyball has been a lifelong passion in Eli's family. His father represented the United States on the National Team, while his brother and uncle also competed at the collegiate level. Growing up with a volleyball in his hand and learning from some of the best in the game, Eli followed in his family's footsteps, becoming a high school All-State player and competing for Red Rose Volleyball Club, where his teams finished in the Top 20 nationally each year. He went on to play collegiately at East Stroudsburg University when the program competed at the varsity level in the EIVA.

Over the past 20 years, Eli has coached more than 25 club and high school teams and spent 13 years coaching collegiate men's and women's volleyball at the NCAA Division I, II, and III levels. His collegiate coaching stops include Eastern Illinois University (W), Millersville University (W), Messiah College (M), George Mason University (M), and Arcadia University (M & W). At Arcadia, he founded the men's volleyball program and led the team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance, finishing in the Top 10 nationally.

Throughout his career, Eli has had the opportunity to work with USA Volleyball and helped the Keystone Region Team earn a silver medal at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships. He has also coached numerous All-Conference athletes and multiple All-Americans.

Eli remains an active competitor today, playing in grass and sand semi-professional events. Whether as a player, coach, or mentor, his passion for the game continues to drive his commitment to developing athletes and growing the sport at every level.
